Our first time backcountry camping together was along the Western Uplands Trail in Algonquin Provincial Park. Situated in central Ontario, the park is well known for clean freshwater lakes, portaging trails (hiking and canoeing), and difficult backcountry hiking trails. We only took on the first loop on the trail, and it was a seriously challenging feat. Beyond just the hiking, we had to hang our food from the black bears that call the park home, set up our tent, cook in the bush, and hide from the mosquitos…
